Santoni has been making luxury leather products for more than 40 years, and they’re not slowing down
Santoni is an independent, family owned, luxury leather manufacturer the likes of which grow fewer and fewer in the present day. Created in 1975 by Andrea Santoni, the company was formed from within the garage of the Santoni family home. With a passion for shoe making and a desire to work with the best leathers available Andrea recruited three of his friends with artisanal tendencies and got to work manufacturing the original Santoni shoe, selling them in local stores and directly to customers from around Italy.
During this time a young boy, Giuseppe, son of Andrea, was using this workshop as his very own playground and without knowing it at the time soaking up the sights, smells and sounds which would shape his future and the ultimate growth of this family run, Italian atelier. By the time he was nineteen Giuseppe had joined the family firm, which was growing in size and stature not only domestically but internationally. Giuseppe was empowered by his father to travel the world and promote the Santoni brand and build its distribution network on a global scale.
Giuseppe Santoni was quick to realise the jump he had made, his eyes opened to the biggest players in the market and the perceived best product. It was this early exposure that has driven Santoni to continually innovate, to continue to produce the very best product from the very best leather whilst continually finding better and more advanced ways of doing so. “I like to think global, I look at the best players, I don’t want to be a small fish in a big tank, I want to swim with the big fishes and so every day we take on challenges and set out targets a bit higher to progress and move my business forward.”
This is part of the mentality that has kept Santoni entirely independent, whilst being approached by various fashion groups and financial houses the Santoni family has preferred to stay at the helm of the business, accepting the responsibility this puts on the family whilst thriving on the freedom the agility brings to their business and the ability it allows them to balance innovation with craftsmanship.

Ultimately, though, it is the creativity of the products that Santoni produce that has ensured the return of the loyal Santoni customer base whilst continuing to grow this year after year. “Our customer is definitely not a fashion victim, our customer is a trend setter, they know exactly what they want and what they are buying”, says Giuseppe Santoni.
It is this confidence in purchaser styling that has allowed Santoni to develop other lines of products while advancing the techniques in their traditional shoe manufacture.
It is through the Santoni desire to innovate and their ever growing technical knowhow that we have seen a number of new product lines and collaborations from the luxury leather manufacturer. Santoni is now producing beautiful bags, belts, wallets and document holders all designed to accentuate or compliment your Santoni shoes. We also saw just a few years ago Santoni collaborate with IWC in producing watch straps for their Portofino range, a collaboration that began years prior when Santoni was recognised for their expertise in the field of leather work. It was the meeting of minds from Santoni and IWC, which allowed Santoni to understand the wear of a leather watchstrap and how to create a luxury strap suitable for the most distinguished of wearer.
Ultimately Santoni is growing within the luxury goods market exponentially and yet they are doing so with such a personal touch and family ethos that you can’t help but feel enamoured with the brand. Beautiful, hand crafted leather goods from a family named business that feels the responsibility of such a thing is not a common thing in todays world of luxury good conglomerates and is something that they value as much as their customer.
