We don’t shop like our fathers or even our older brothers used to. These days the need for brick and mortar stores has largely been negated. But instead of cashing in their chips and calling it a day, it’s interesting to see how heritage brands have answered the challenge of this new retail landscape.

Dunhill has been at the forefront of this new way of looking at the shopping experience, with restaurants, lounges and barbershops extending its profile beyond what it’s traditionally known for — ready-to-wear clothing and bespoke menswear, supported by a rich offering of leather goods and accessories. The brand now brings an element of that holistic approach to its new regional flagship store in The Dubai Mall.

Placed discreetly behind dark wood doors awaits a haven of masculine tranquillity, where men can sink into luxurious barber chairs for some top-notch grooming. The head barber has diligently assembled a crew of four who understand the men of this region and our requirements, and blend that with the luxury British quality that’s Dunhill’s trademark. That philosophy is underpinned by the products the barbers use — luxury skincare brand Elemis and homegrown range Shiffa. As I take the chair, my barber dances around me wielding the Andis clippers and trimmers that can only be found in this barbershop in the region, before opting for a blade for a wet shave.

This grooming element is at the core of the Alfred Dunhill VIP Experience, which combines everything the store has to offer — haircut and shave, facial and a mini massage in the barbershop.

Visits here start with a personal stylist guiding clients through the elegant brass and wood interior, finishing with an introduction to Dunhill’s made-to-measure and bespoke services.
