The top lunch deals for gents looking to make top business deals
A selection of some of the finest, gentry-fit bars in Dubai, for your drinking pleasure. Chin chin
With some of the most elegant and luxurious watering holes around, finding a gents bar takes careful consideration and much — hic — research.
The criteria for a gentleman’s bar includes, but is not limited to: a regal smell of expensive upholstery, excellently executed cocktails, attention to detail and a respectable din of sophisticated chatter.
We took it upon ourselves to select some of the very finest bars in the emirate, so you can sip the night away safe in the knowledge that your status as city gent is only going to be enhanced by propping up these beautiful bars.
Quincy Jones' fingerprint is all over his eponymous Dubai bar. Live jazz. Sultry performers. Dimmed lighting. And an intimate space that creates a closeness and joviality between customers and the live acts. It’s the quintessential spot for the gent partial to good live music and a well-thought out drinks menu.
The fact that this is Quincy’s first jazz club opening is good reason enough to see and be seen here. Add into that the fact that the stripped back, minimal and dark interior décor creates that fuzzy after-hours feel that you dream of finding in the best jazz clubs around, and you realise this place has got it spot on.
Debonair recommends: Bourbon and bubbles. Because it’s bourbon and bubbles.
The Library Bar hits all of our criteria with the sort of stylish aplomb that makes you want to spend the whole night here. It also has the added x-factor of a gents bar which we didn’t mention in our intro: cigar smoke. And it’s not just your standard Cuban cigar smoke, either. Oh no. They kick the class and exclusivity of their stogies up a notch, here.
You can puff away on some of the finest cigars from Brazil, Nicaragua, Ecuador and Dominican Republic while the light chink-chinking of ice in whisky glasses in the background creates an reliably comforting ambience.
Having been housed in a cosy nook of the Ritz Carlton since the hotel’s opening 20 years ago, it’s something of an unknown gem. Which makes it perfect for a quiet, personable evening drinking.
Debonair recommends: The Caorunn and tonic. Rose petals and slices of green apple do wonderful things to this refreshing number.
Where other bars are quietly elegant and unassuming, Vault epitomises the glitz of Dubai. The 360 degree floor-to-ceiling windows that open up onto the sprawling Sheikh Zayed highway, glittering with a thousand red and golden eyes at night as the traffic restlessly passes by, create a dazzling vantage point. This one is the most scenic bar in our list
Special mention for the gent’s night that Vault runs every Saturday from 8 – 11 in the evening. Top class.
Debonair recommends: The “Vault Member”. A tongue-tingling interplay of gin, vermouth and Campari. This is not your Negroni. Oh no. This is way better. Not bitter. Just better.
This little gem, hidden away behind a mysterious bookshelf in the hotel’s lobby has the atmosphere of a speakeasy: dimly lit and the sort of place you might expect to need to know a secret Masonic handshake or nod of the head to get into. It specialises in Japanese single malts and sake.
Debonair recommends: Fuji Nikka Tikka. Instead of describing this, we’ll give you the ingredients. They speak for themselves: blended Japanese whisky, citrus liqueur, absinthe, bitters, housemade almond infusion, fresh pineapple and lime juice. Zesty!
Named after the traveller whose posthumous fame has skyrocketed of late thanks the gin that bears his name and which goes exquisitely well with a slice of cucumber. (Or a julienne, if you’re feeling fancy.) Hendrick’s boasts the most extensive gin collection in the emirate.
This high-ceilinged, moody cigar gents bar affords you the sort of grandeur you that makes you feel gentrified even if you look a little more Seasick Steve than George Clooney.
Debonair recommends: The Old Fashioned. Simple. Stylish. Ever classy. And if you ask the bar staff politely, they’ll put their own tequila twist on it for you.
