Brand Focus: Anchor & Crew

We catch up with the team behind the British jewellery, leather goods and accessories label known for its anchor bracelets

Our most popular design is the Talbot bracelet. Super simple by design and its clasp opening, this particular bracelet is the epitome of our quality manufacturing meets casual easy-wearing.

Where does the name come from?

Anchor & Crew stems from the instant association of quality with an anchor and Great Britain. Located in an area of Britain that boasts being home to some of the country’s most illustrious brands and companies across a range of industries including Paul Smith, Rolls-Royce and Jaguar Land Rover, Anchor & Crew aims to be a modern interpretation of the area’s renown history.

How would you describe your brand’s aesthetic?

Sophisticated and minimal, yet easy-to-wear and cool. Fusing traditional jewellery materials such as silver and gold with more modern stingray leather and GB Navy rope, we try to merge quality with casual. We’re timelessly British by design and manufacture.

What inspires the brand?

Completely inspired by nature, most of our campaigns include organising photographers to explore parts of the world in search of random discovery, most recently to Iceland and Abu Dhabi. We are also big admirers of the age-old “form follows function” approach, and are soon launching belts and bags to add to our leather goods and jewellery.

What goes into creating the perfect accessories collection?

Firstly, jewellery is undoubtedly one of the finest forms of luxury in the world and by our efforts in wanting to make quality accessories more accessible, casual and wider appealing to men, we think a careful balance must be met between price point and high quality. Then, operating in an industry that has received a lot of bad attention for its blood diamonds, unsustainable mining and the like, we place social and environmental ethics very highly in our priorities and think a perfect accessory must always be manufactured appropriately.

What informs your choice of print, colour etc?

Each collection is always available in four to 12 colourways to be as easy-wearing as possible. The choice of colours changes each year and most often stems from the latest trends. We adapt each year but stay true to our mission.

Do you have a flagship product, and what makes it stand out?

Anchor & Crew is probably best known for our range of sterling silver anchor bracelets. But that said, our most popular design is the Talbot bracelet. Super simple by design and its clasp opening, this particular bracelet is the epitome of our quality manufacturing meets casual easy-wearing.

It’s perfect for either dressing up and pairing with a fine wristwatch on a night out, or as a simple standalone piece in the comforts of your home.

What do you think will be the next big revolution in your segment?

Mobile retail, and people admiring smaller brands. We are keeping close tabs on all the developments in the retail industry, in which so many traditional retailers are feeling the effects of modern ecommerce, whether fashion or jewellery. We think more and more brands will soon offer mobile retail outlets. Equally so, we are proudly being selected by some of the world’s best ecommerce stores because of the brand’s small-medium nature as opposed to being a global fashion behemoth… for now.

What about the Middle East appeals to you?

It’s very youthful, its consumers have a high admiration for quality fashion and they possess good, honest values. All these aspects resonate with Anchor & Crew’s brand mission.

How has the rise of ecommerce influenced your company?

Not so much the speed of the rise, but the transition of ecommerce into being a multi-channel experience is what has most influenced our company. We strive to make every bit of consumer interest visible across all our platforms, whether that’s social media, website, marketing etc. Consumers buy into brands, and we love the effort it takes to make a brand really special.
