The sight that inspires me the most in Dubai is… I have always loved Dubai Creek. When I first came to Dubai in 1995, it was the hub of the city, where people of all walks of life gathered to socialise, work and eat. I am so happy to see this part of Dubai regaining attention and I look forward to seeing what is yet to come.
The building I feel most connected to in the city is… I would say the airport. My office window looks out across the runway and it’s fun to imagine all the exciting destinations that people are travelling to. Airports are always such intriguing places, holding the promise of new adventures.
The last gift I received from someone in the city was… silver cufflinks with Arabic writing — one says Oliver and the other Charlie, the names of my two beautiful sons. It’s something I will treasure forever.
My next investment… will probably be a holiday home in the UK, near my favorite city by the sea, Brighton.
My last memorable trip was to… Sri Lanka with my family. We travelled the length and breadth of the country and came back exhausted and awestruck. It is an incredible country and I’m looking forward to going back again one day.
The thing I most look forward to coming back to is… It never ceases to amaze me how beautifully clean and pristine Dubai is. Also the fact that it is the “City of Lights” — always bright and beautiful, no matter what time of the day it is.
The last thing that surprised me about the city was… the new La Mer beach area. Where did it come from all of a sudden? The area it occupies is vast and the style is so different from anywhere else in Dubai and it seemed to have just appeared out of nowhere! It’s another place I love to go and spend the day with my family because there’s so much to do.
If I didn’t live in my city I would live in… As I have been away from the UK for more than 20 years and have travelled and lived in places such as Taipei, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur, Kuwait and Oslo, I am open to moving anywhere!
